What’s New with Elementor 3.0

For many websites, the page builder is the most important tool in all of WordPress. Being able to skip CSS and HTML coding to create organized, beautiful, and effective pages greatly lowers the barrier of entry for designing a site. It also saves time and money for web developers while leading to a better final product, keeping site owners happy.

However, as trends evolve and the demands of modern web design increase, the tools that we use must keep up to enable creativity without sacrificing performance. More elements to drag and drop into sites, efficient load times and processing, and an easier to use interface are critical developments that help keep web design moving forward. This is exactly what Elementor’s update to 3.0 brings to the already incredibly popular page builder plugin.

New Features in Elementor 3.0

Design System (aka Global Settings)

There are a lot of elements that need to be customized on your WordPress site. You usually want aspects like the typography for titles, text, and buttons to remain uniform throughout the site. You may also want to keep a single accent color throughout the site, but it’s a hassle to have to choose the same color each time on the interface. This is where the new “Design System” update comes in.

This system allows you to take control over the global settings of your website (and more specifically your builder elements). You’re able to change settings in the design system menu like accent color, and it will change that color everywhere on the website at once. This saves a ton of time going through each object individually, and prevents you from missing any. You can also control the font of each main category of text, set a default page layout for new pages created with Elementor, create form field templates, and edit your site identity at once.

Theme Builder Dashboard

Do you want total control over more than just the body of your webpages? With access to the Elementor visual builder on all of the sections of your website, you can create unique headers, footers, post templates, and more.

The theme builder was part of Elementor Pro 2.0, which allowed you to use the same interface for global sections of your website as you do on Elementor pages. However, these customizations had to be enabled individually on each section, making it more time consuming to edit and review each template.

With Elementor 3.0, there is a new theme builder dashboard that gives you a quick overview of each of the templates your site is using, including header, footer, post types, search results, error pages, and more. You can see a live preview of each individually within their section, or all of them at once to ensure uniformity in the look you’re trying to achieve. From this dashboard, you can also add new templates, change the active template, or go in and edit the template with the builder.

The theme builder dashboard helps ensure your website is complete without having to navigate around to every page. You can set your templates once without worrying about editing each page or post, saving development time with improved organization.

Performance Improvements

While it isn’t necessarily a new development, performance is important to maintain and improve with further developments of a visual builder like Elementor. As more complex elements and webpages are created, the load times can begin to slow down which leads to a lesser customer experience and potentially worse SEO.

In Elementor 3.0, the way CSS styling is handled has changed to improve load times. Elementor now stores dynamic values in a list along with the post or page, allowing them to be fetched from a single location rather than requiring it to scan the entire page for content to process first. This eliminates the step of searching for content to print before assembling the elements on the webpage, helping to lower resource usage and improve load times.
